After nearly 38 years of dedicated service to the NHS, Dr John Kirkup has announced his plans to retire at the end of March 2025.

Dr Kirkup has been an invaluable member of the team at Summerside for 33 years, providing exceptional care as a GP partner. He will be greatly missed by both his colleagues and patients.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr Kirkup for his years of commitment and dedication, and we wish him all the best for a happy and fulfilling retirement.

Patients can be assured that their care will continue uninterrupted. From 31st March 2025, Dr Dominic Rhatigan, who has previously worked with us at Summerside, will be joining the team as Dr Kirkup’s successor. We look forward to welcoming him back.

Missing appointment details:

You should contact NHS Scotland if you think you should have received an invitation to your coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination appointment by now, or if you have lost your invitation letter. You can do this by phone or by completing an online form at the link below.

Please do not contact your GP Practice to ask for a Covid-19 vaccination passport or status certificate – they will not be able to provide any standard document. International certification standards have not yet been agreed.

The Scottish Government is working to support the re-opening of international travel once it is safe to do so. They are working with the other UK Nations and with the World Health Organisation to agree on potential future COVID certification requirements for international travel. As part of this, they are developing a technical solution that could allow people to access their Covid-19 vaccination status directly.

111 is the NHS non-emergency number. It’s fast, easy and free. Call 111 and speak to a hIf you are ill and need urgent medical advice when the surgery is closed, call NHS 24 on 111. If you call the surgery out of hours, you will hear a message asking you to call NHS 24 on this number. NHS 24 will assess your symptoms and give appropriate advice or arrange for you to be seen by a nurse or doctor if it is felt necessary. This may either be at a Treatment Centre or at your home. Out of hours cover is now the responsibility of NHS Lothian.
